"Jordan!"

She rolled her eyes at the loud summons. He was getting worse as the night went on. You would think it was he getting married, not Nick.

"Yes, Lucien?" she called sweetly. He strode into the office doorway and stood fiddling with his cufflinks as he spoke.

"You're certain Patrick has enough alternative refreshments?"

"Yes, Lucien...and you asked me that this morning. He had enough then, too."  She poked her tongue out at his glare.

He knew he was fussing. He wasn't entirely sure why he felt this slight nervousness. It wasn't the first time Nicholas has married, nor the first time he had acted as best man. Perhaps it was because this time he was aware of the finality of the love and union between his son and lover. This joining would take a little more of his son away from him. He felt like a parent sending his child away from home. But Nicholas was past all of that--he had been an adult for centuries...well, most of the time, anyway.

No, that wasn't necessarily the whole reason, either. What was foremost on his mind was the fact this may just give Jordan the idea that marriage was a good thing! He sighed. This was ridiculous! He roughly pulled at his cufflink. Unfortunately, he tugged a little too hard.

Jordan glanced up at the sound of tearing cloth. At his exasperated expression, she rose and joined him, taking his hand in hers and raising it to see the damage. One look told her it was a lost cause. Without a word, she began unbuttoning his shirt. She pulled it apart and slid her hands in over his bare chest, pushing the silk from his shoulders. Still silent, she pulled him into the room and closed the door, smiling at his raised eyebrow.

"You seem a little tense," she observed.

"I'm nothing of the sort," he snapped, standing in the middle of the office, his shirt halfway down his back.

"No?"

"No."

"Oh, well. I suppose you don't need any help relaxing, then." She pouted contritely, crossing back to his desk.

"Well, perhaps a little," he purred smoothly. Jordan paused and turned back to him. She leaned against the desk front and curled a finger at him, drawing him nearer.

He moved in close until they were almost, but not quite, touching. He listened as the beating of her heart increased, quickening the delicious blood through her veins. He wet his lips as he gazed into her eyes. She smiled at the gesture. He smiled back--she knew all the signs. He wanted her, all of her.

"Perhaps more than just a little," he spoke low and sensuously. She raised her hands to his chest and slowly caressed his bare skin. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, letting her scent fill his senses.

He felt his shirt fall completely, and her hands roamed over his abdomen, back up his chest and down his arms. He stood silent and unmoving, receiving her loving touch.

Dropping his head, he kissed her temple, then her lips as she raised them to meet his. He surrounded her in his arms and moved closer, until they were pressed tightly against each other. He continued to kiss her as he began to undress her. He paused, his eyebrow rising in question, when she stopped him. She led him to the couch and pushed him down.

Jordan smiled at his puzzled look.

"This is just for you."

He smirked in return, but let her continue to caress his shoulders and neck before dropping to kneel on the floor before him.

Lacroix soon found himself sitting completely naked in his office, his lover pleasing him as she only could. When he finally returned to earth, he leaned forward and kissed her tenderly on the lips.

"Thank you, my love," he whispered softly.

"Better?"

"Much." He kissed her again, then stood to pull his pants back on.

She followed him upstairs to finish getting ready herself. She put on her makeup and chose a shawl to match her forest green gown, then turned to help Lucien with his cuff links. She brushed his shoulders as he pulled on his jacket and smoothed down the lapels. He took her hands and held them apart so he could gaze at her beauty.

"You are a stunning sight to behold, mon coeur," he breathed, his eyes roaming over her form-fitting dress and back up into her eyes. Yes, she was beautiful beyond words. She kissed him again and pulled away.

Taking his cloak and draping it over his arm, he held out the other for her to take. Smiling, she entwined her arm with his, and together they headed downstairs and to the waiting limousine.

"Have you got that?" Nick asked as he watched his son struggle slightly with the case he had just given him to carry.

"Yup," Nicky called confidently as he secured his precious load, and disappeared into the lift.

Nick sighed, then took a deep calming breath, and then he took another...and another. Nope, the butterflies dancing in his stomach were still there. Nick stood before his mirror, checking his costume one last time.

He smoothed the black suit to his chest, and sighed.

"Come on de Brabant. This isn't going to hurt." No. But what if he stuffed up his lines in front of every living soul he knew? Because they were all going to be there. He breathed deeply again as he forced himself not to sweat. That was not a good look.

He took one last look at himself then collected his cloak and descended the stairs down into the living room. Lacroix would be here any minute to take him to the park. Natalie was at the Four Seasons, getting herself ready, along with Jordan, Janette and Tracy to assist her. He mentally went over all the details of the wedding ceremony and reception afterward. Even though it was too late now to do anything about it should they have forgotten something.

Lacroix and the limousine arrived at the loft a few minutes after leaving Jordan behind at the Four Seasons. He was met at the door by his grandson, who was fairly bouncing around in his excitement.

"Grandfather!" Nicky accosted the man as soon as he stepped from the vehicle. "Have you seen the park? Is everything there? Have you seen Mom? Is Jordan with her? Dad gave me his sword to put in the car..." the boy babbled excitedly.

"Nicholas!" Lacroix said to get his attention. Nicky turned back from placing the hardwood case inside the vehicle. "Settle yourself. It is most unbecoming."

Nicky rolled his eyes but took a deep breath anyway.

"Better. Get in the car."

Nicky did as he was told and climbed in the back door.

Lacroix rode the lift to the loft to find his son rapidly pacing the floor before the door. He sighed as he opened their link, and again, sampled his son's abundant nervousness.

"Nicholas."

Nick came to a halt and turned to his father.

"Sorry, didn't hear you come in."

"Indeed." He realized his own feelings may only have been a seeping of his son's emotions through their link. This, in turn, made him relax. He was obviously going to have to make sure his son made it to the chapel, so to speak, in one emotional piece.

"Are you ready to depart?"

"Um...yeah."

"Then come. Let us not keep the bride waiting," he said, as he gently guided Nick to the lift and down into the car.

Part 2

"Here. We all thought it our duty to make sure you were wearing all the traditional garb," Jordan announced, handing her a small package. Leaving her shoes on the floor as she rose to take the gift, Natalie smiled. She had a fair idea as to what it was. Opening the gold paper, she raised her eyebrows at the beautiful lace and silk garter.

"Oh, my. Thank you all. It's lovely." She gave them a hug, which caused Janette to hesitate momentarily before sighing and giving Natalie a genuine smile.

"I just hope all my hard work does not go to waste. Nicholas can be so infuriating sometimes. It would not surprise me in the least if you were to stake him one day and be done with it," she told Natalie with a sigh.

Natalie chuckled. Janette was being so good about her and Nick. More so than she had ever thought she was capable of, and this was a huge relief for her as Janette had been the source of so much friction between her and Nick over the years. This was the immortal woman's way of reassuring Natalie that she would not intentionally come between her and Nick again.

Natalie hitched up her dress and pulled the garter well up her thigh.

"It's going to be interesting to watch Nick get that off and still retain your dignity, Natalie Lambert!" Jordan quipped in amusement.

"I'll be a married woman by that time. I won't need my dignity!"

They helped Natalie with her shoes and then her elegant headpiece of stunning white and blue flowers.

Jordan stood back and admired their work.

"Nat, you look beautiful!" she breathed. Natalie blushed. She felt beautiful. The dress was magnificent, having taken Janette almost a month to get just right. It was simple, trimmed in all the right places with a fine hand-woven lace, and a small, gentle train gracefully following behind. She took a deep breath and pulled her hair up for Jordan to place the final piece into place around her neck. It was a delicate silver chain and locket.   It had been her mother's, one of the few things she had which belonged to her.

Letting her hair drop, she looked at herself in the full-length mirror. She could hardly believe the woman staring back was really her.

"I think I'm going to cry," she whispered.

"No!" cried both Tracy and Jordan together. "You'll ruin your makeup!"

Jordan chuckled as Natalie began giggling.

There was a soft knock on the door and Tracy went to open it. A young blonde girl about thirteen years old stood grinning in the doorway.

"Amy! Oh, my god. Look at you. You look stunning!" Natalie gathered her niece up in a hug, then pushed her to arm's length to look at her again.

"It's such a beautiful dress, Aunt Nat. Thank you," Amy said, smoothing the silk into place.

"You can thank your Aunt Janette for that. She was the one who made it."

Natalie smiled at Janette's glance of surprise at being included in her family, then her silence at saying otherwise.

"You look so grown up." Nat quickly turned her attention back to the smiling girl.

"The park looks amazing! There are lit torches everywhere! The guests are almost all here, too. It's really beautiful. I hope my wedding is just like this, Aunt Nat. It's like a fairytale," the girl swooned.

"Yes, it is, isn't it?" Natalie breathed, hardly believing it herself. The whole day almost had a surreal feel about it.

It was time to head over toward the park and the waiting groom. All gathering their prospective props, Jordan handed Natalie her bouquet and Amy her basket of red and white rose petals. They made their way out of the suite to the waiting car.

Nick smoothed the front of his tunic yet again, and glanced around the small, Roman-style tent which was his until the ceremony began. It was sparsely furnished with a small desk and a handful of chairs. The park was perfect, the weather was holding, the air warm and the guests had thankfully all arrived on time and were chatting excitedly.

The sheer extravagance of the ceremony was astounding the mortal contingent, many of whom had whispered comments about his name and that he must be 'that' de Brabant. They were right, of course.

Natalie had insisted he use his family name on the invitations, and he hadn't regretted it once. It made the whole ceremony that much more special.

The ceremony itself was a blend of old and new. The orchestra and choir had turned up and tuned up and were taking their places as was the celebrant, patiently waiting outside his tent. They had all rehearsed the affair several times over the past month, and it promised to be as rousing and sentimental as he and Natalie had envisioned. Lacroix had managed to turn up to the last two nights of rehearsal, finally dragged along by Jordan, though he had rolled his eyes and made grunts and mumbled comments the whole time, to the point of being whacked one by his lover. Of course, Lacroix had found it all quite amusing.

During the past weeks of mass organization and chaos, he and Natalie had spent very little quality time to themselves. He thought he may have gone insane with repressed sexual tension had they not relieved a little of their frustration one night...while at work.

"Knight!"

Nick pushed himself from his desk and made his way to the captain's office. Leaning against the door frame, he watched his superior go about packing his briefcase in a hurry.

"I've been called to court unexpectedly, and as you're the highest-ranked detective here, I need you to hold the fort for the rest of the night," Reese told him without looking up as he carried on with his preparations.

"The Grant case?" Nick asked.

"Yeah. The defense have brought in a hotshot private detective, and they need me to shoot him down."

"I thought they had this case pretty much wound up?"

"So did I. But I just got the call, so the desk is all yours."

"Ah, gee, thanks, Cap."

Reese closed his briefcase and came up to Nick and slapped him on the back.

"My pleasure, Knight!" he said sarcastically. Nick rolled his eyes. Reese left, leaving Nick to gather his active files from his own desk and plonk himself into the captain's chair. He leaned back and swivelled a bit to find the most comfortable angle. It wasn't very hard, as the captain's chair was a lot nicer than his.

Being by himself in the small office, Nick managed to get through a stack of paperwork uninterrupted. That was until the phone began to ring non-stop, most of the calls coming from the commissioner's office. Nick slammed down the phone and silently swore at the commissioner himself after a rather lengthy conversation about nothing in particular.

"Waste of god-damned time!" he muttered. Then he paused and laughed at his unconscious impersonation of the captain.

"Enjoying yourself, acting Captain Knight?" a stern voice asked him from the doorway. "Absolutely," he replied, smiling as Natalie moved closer, and after a quick look toward the door, gave him a quick peck on the lips. Nick pulled away slightly and leered.

He closed his eyes and breathed in her scent, sending shivers up his spine.  He moaned softly in frustration.

"Nat, it's been over a week," he said wistfully, his eyes beginning to take on a decidedly golden tint.

"I know!" Natalie replied, the rough huskiness of her voice mirroring his.

She moved closer, and he wrapped his arms around her waist and lay his head against her stomach. Natalie nervously looked to the open door again. They were out of the direct line of sight from outside, but if anyone should walk past or poke their head in the door, they would have some serious explaining to do. Natalie tensed as she felt Nick nuzzle a little deeper into her clothing and a roving hand drop down to caress her leg, just under where her skirt ended.

"Nick," she warned him.

"Oh, god, Nat! I need you now!" He shifted slightly as the bulge in his jeans rapidly became uncomfortable.

"Nick, we are in the captain's office!" she spluttered.

"I don't care. There's a lock on the door." He began to let his hands slip further up her skirt until his fingers brushed against her underwear. It was her turn to moan softly.

Abruptly pulling away from him, Natalie crossed to the door and closed it firmly, flicking the lock home. She then crossed to her lover and threw herself at him, falling in his arms and kissing him passionately. Nick's hands travelled fast, pushing her skirt up over her hips and tearing away her underwear. They continued to tongue duel as she straddled his lap and rapidly unbuttoned his jeans, yanking them painfully over his erection. Nick caught his breath and tipped back his head as she stroked him firmly for a few strokes, before lifting herself up and impaling herself upon him. They both groaned, muffling their volume by shoving teeth into jackets.

Natalie began to move slowly, raising herself and dropping down to sheath him once again. Nick couldn't stand this slow pace, and not having much time, he lifted them both up and placed Natalie on the desk. He slid his jeans to his knees, and began pounding into his lover with abandon.

"Oh, Nick!" Natalie breathed. They were both straining to be quiet as they made love, but they were surely becoming louder. Nick placed a hand over Natalie's mouth and clamped down on his own tongue to keep from letting go the roar of pleasure he so very wanted to.

Not soon enough for either of them, they felt each other begin to climax.

Natalie shoved her wrist into Nick's mouth and bit down on his hand as they both came.

They lay still for a moment, Nick slumped down on top of his lover. He eventually pushed himself up and helped Natalie to her feet. They smiled, then kissed passionately again. Natalie pulled away, chewed her bottom lip, then chuckled as she stared wide-eyed at him. "Oh, my god, Nick! I can't believe we just did that!" Nick laughed as he re-buttoned his clothing and straightened his shirt. Natalie pulled down her skirt and smoothed the slight wrinkle, then shoved her shirt back into place. After giving each other a once over, they kissed again.

Both of them broke apart with a start when a loud knock rattled the door.  Nick quickly sat himself in his chair while Natalie crossed the room to open the door. It was Tracy. All she did was stare at them for a long moment.

Nick cleared his throat nervously and asked,

"Can I help you with something, Trace?"

"What? Oh, yeah. Ah, Jack Gordon called to set up a trial date. Is the 4th okay with you?"

"Um, yeah, yeah, sure, that's fine," Nick answered quickly. Tracy looked from one to the other, then made a show of sniffing the air. She then smiled as they shifted uncomfortably.

"You had best open a window before Reese gets back," she said, then turned and quickly left, leaving the stunned and embarrassed pair staring at each other. Without a word, Nick launched himself at a rear window and opened it wide, letting in the fresh air.

"Do you think anyone else...?" Nat asked him. " Nick frowned. " Ah, I don't think so," he said quickly, as much to belay his own fears as to reassure her.

"Okay. Then I'd better go," Nat said, heading toward the now open door.

"Um, yeah, I'll see you at home." They shared a quick grin before she disappeared.

Tracy was instantly back in his office. She fixed her disbelieving gaze on her partner, her mouth hanging open in astonishment. He quickly looked up and asked her, "Did anyone...?"

"No!" she exclaimed. She was pretty sure they hadn't been heard. "But I still can't believe you two just did that!!" she gasped, smiling again before leaving. Nick chuckled. And let out a sigh of relief. It had been worth the risk though, he thought, relaxing into his chair once again.

>>>>>

He smiled at the memory.

It was all happening tonight. He was taking Natalie as his wife. He held his smile as he thought about them being known from this day forth as Mr and Mrs Knight. He was still grinning when Lacroix rejoined him.

"Are you quite all right, Nicholas?" he asked. He was almost worried about his son's chaotic state of mind.

"I'm just fine, Lacroix," he replied calmly. He took a few deep breaths, and closed his eyes briefly as the butterflies, which had been nagging him ever since he woke that afternoon, were finally gone. The rest of tonight was for Natalie. It was just the two of them before God and the stars above.

"If you say so, child," Lacroix muttered dubiously.

Jordan helped Natalie into the black Rolls-Royce waiting at the door to take them across to the reserved park where the ceremony was to be held. They could see the torches lit and blazing from where they stood, and paused a moment as they fully gathered the reality of the event. This was indeed an event, not only in her and Nick's mortal life, but within the Community, as well. She was still mortal, and a public joining such as this would not put them into the good books of many vampires throughout the world. But Nick was Lacroix's son, who in turn was of good standing within the hierarchial makeup of the Community, thus giving him and his family some leeway in tradition. However, they were being watched, and very closely. Natalie was to come across, whether she wanted to or not, from this point on. Not that the ultimatum had bothered her at all--she had fully intended to be brought into the Community soon enough. Many immortals here today were present as a show of support for the elders' decision in allowing her and Nick to marry; whether they agreed with the decision was another matter, but for tonight, at least, everyone was asked to put aside their differences and have a good time.

All fitting comfortably within the car, they were slowly driven toward the second greatest day in Natalie's life. The first, of course, being when a certain blond vampire sat up on her slab one night.

As they grew nearer, she took deep breaths, calming the nervous twittering in her stomach.

Word quickly spread that the bride was almost upon them, and the crowd of gathered guests quickly took their seats and quietened.

Nick sucked in a deep breath and turned to his son.

"Ready?" The young boy nodded and smiled as he lifted the heavy silver sword of his father's family in his arms. It was a thousand years old and held the crest of de Brabant. He wrapped his hands around the scabbard, and turned the crest on the hilt to face forwards. Lacroix stepped forward and straightened his son's ankle-length cloak. It was the blue of his eyes, the very same he had been wearing when he had first caught sight of his golden crusader. Janette had done a fine job recreating it. The gold chain it was clasped with sparkled in the fire-light, adding to the ambience. Nick looked up and met his eyes. Lacroix was stunning as ever in his matching attire, the only difference being was his cloak which was as black as the sky above.

Nick moved into his arms for a brief embrace. When they released each other, Lacroix slapped him on the back. Nick grinned. His sire needn't use words for once. His eyes told him all he needed to know.

"Let us begin," Lacroix told them, and Nicky led them out of the tent.

They stood in a foyer, made of the same soft cream cloth as the tents, and waited for their cue to begin. The flickering light from the multitude of torches scattered around the park gave the place a warm and hair-raising sense of atmosphere. Nick sighed. It was all perfect.

The bridal car pulled up quietly behind them, and Nick turned to watch Natalie climb out. She was stunning, smiling as their eyes met. Time slowed as they gazed at each other, reaching into the other's mind. He relaxed further. Tonight was for them now. No one else mattered.

The music began. A steady, slow pounding of a bass drum, slowly accompanied by violins and cellos. The choir began to sing. It was an old piece. It was strong and grandiose.

All heads turned to the closed curtain as it opened. Nicky took the lead, and began a slow march down the aisle. He held his father's sword proudly as he made his way toward the altar. When his son was a few steps ahead, Nick began his own march, his sire following at an equal distance behind. He heard whispers of awe, and glanced and smiled at his captain and then Myra Schanke as he passed. How he wished Schanke could have been here!

The music grew to a crescendo as Nick reached the altar. He stood waiting for his bride, with Lacroix taking his place at his side, and Nicky standing in the aisle, holding his sword high. The music crested again, and Amy entered from beneath the curtain, gracefully throwing the fresh rose petals to the ground before her.

Natalie followed her, and the gasps of delight and tears began to flow. She was even more beautiful than she had been a mere minute before, Nick thought in awe.

Jordan, Janette and Tracy followed behind as Lacroix had for Nick, and as the music crested again, Nick reached out and took Natalie's hand, joining them as they moved together toward the altar. Nicky led before them and placed the sword into a stand, holding it high throughout the ceremony. He quickly retreated to stand next to his grandfather.

The music faded to silence, though the thrilling vibes, filling the park like a mystical presence, seemed to take its place.

The celebrant moved forward and began the ceremony.

"We have come together this night to celebrate the union of Nicholas de Brabant Knight and Natalie Anne Lambert." The celebrant was smiling, his pale, aristocratic bearing the only sign of his immortal nature. Nick had asked Samuel to officiate at the wedding, and much to his surprise, he had agreed. The Elder spoke loudly and clear, his rich, deep voice announcing their love to the world.

Nick gently squeezed Natalie's hand and glanced toward her as he felt her tighten hers in return.

"May their union of heart and soul be strong and unwavering so it may travel the ages of eternity." Samuel turned to Lacroix and the younger vampire stepped forward.

"Who here gives the rights to this lawful union?" Samuel asked formally.

"I do," Lacroix announced clearly, exuding a little power into the surrounding population. A little reinforcement of his words. He supported this joining of vampire and mortal, and woe be it upon any who would challenge his blessing.

Samuel nodded and Lacroix returned to his place at his grandson's side.

Samuel turned his attention to Nick.

"Nicolas de Brabant Knight, do thee give thyself and all thy worldly possessions to this woman? Will thee love, cherish, and protect her? Provide and comfort her, and support thine kin through the best of times and the worst of times, for all eternity?"

"I will," Nick told him firmly, without hesitation. The celebrant turned to Natalie.

"Natalie Anne Lambert, do thee freely give thyself and all thy worldly possessions to this man? Will thee bear honour and pride to his house? Will thee love, cherish and comfort him through the best of times and the worst of times, for all eternity?"

"I will," Natalie said with conviction, proud her voice had worked as well as it had.

"Then let it be proclaimed on this night the vow of Nicholas and Natalie and their oath to reside in faithful matrimony until they are parted by death!" Samuel declared to the gathering of mortal and immortal witnesses.

Lacroix stepped forward again and produced a pair of exquisitely crafted gold rings. He handed the first, a larger one, to Natalie. Taking it, they shared a small smile. These rings were his gift to his children.

Natalie took Nick's left hand in her own and gently slid the ring over his finger.

"For eternity, I thee wed," she spoke clearly, sealing her commitment to her lover.

Nick smiled as their eyes met and she touched him. Lacroix held the second ring for Nick to take. He gently placed it upon Natalie's finger.

"For eternity, I thee wed," he repeated her words, then bent to kiss her ring. They kept smiling at each other as Samuel continued.

"So be it proclaimed in the presence of Clan and Community, I pronounce thee, man and wife! May your love for each other serve your family well," he added, more softly, for the bride and groom alone. They all smiled, and Nick moved in to take his wife into his arms, their lips meeting to an uproar of applause. The orchestra and choir began again, and Nick and Natalie broke apart and turned to the ecstatic guests. Everyone was on their feet, cheering and applauding madly. Nick led Natalie back down the aisle, his arm wrapped tightly around hers, and on into the waiting car.

Part 3

The were taken to a photography studio not far from the town centre, where they met up with the rest of the family and wedding party.

Nick and Natalie stood together as the photographer did her work in arranging them and the rest of the party into groups and quickly and efficiently took the obligatory photographs. She had been sure to get everyone, including one of just Nick and Lacroix and one of all the boys together, and at Nick and Natalie's prodding, one of Jordan and Lacroix, as well. Lacroix had insisted on hiring the woman who was the very same he had forced his children to pose for several years before. He had no doubt the results would be favourable. Three-quarters of an hour later, they entered the reception area of the Four Seasons Hotel.

Everyone sitting around the scattering of tables rose to their feet and cheered and applauded the newlyweds as they entered the reception hall.

There was an interesting mix of both mortal and vampire, and Natalie found herself smiling as she watched them interact together.

Nicky and Amy were getting on like a house on fire, which drew a sigh of relief from Natalie, who had feared they might not get along, as they had never met before tonight. Even Lacroix was on his best behaviour, making pleasant conversation with Amy's mother and Amy herself. She had been surprised to learn of Lacroix's tolerance toward children soon after the horrid affair with Divia almost two years ago now. Nick had told her all he knew, which was very little, but she suspected Jordan was well informed as to the ancient's views and life as the immortal son to his own daughter.

"Come on, Nick!" Jordan pulled on his coat sleeve and pushed him toward the rapidly emptying dance floor. He glanced at the waiting chair, then grinned as he saw Natalie being herded toward him by her bridesmaids. She was pushed into the chair and left to it. Nick remained frozen to the spot. He was not going to do this in front of so many people! They were all cheering him on, but he knew how he and Natalie reacted to being so close together these days...it could get embarrassing!

Lacroix smirked and came up behind his son and gave him a sturdy shove toward his bride. An almighty male roar came from the men present, both vampire and mortal.

Natalie blushed then smiled as Lacroix gave Nick a shove in her direction.  She loved it when Nick went all gallant on her. It was so romantic, but also very arousing, and she couldn't help but be amused at his discomfort. She was sure he was doing the vampire equivalent of a blush. She decided to see if she could make him a little pinker. Lifting her leg provocatively, she dropped her chin and raised her eyes to him, then as a clincher, she deftly ran her tongue sensually across her lips.

The woman cheered this time as they watched Nick run a finger around his collar. But as he met his wife's eyes, he seemed to gain his bearings and straightened his shoulders and slowly stepped toward her, his every move sensual and predatorial, causing havoc among the female contingent. His cloak billowed and swirled as circled his lady, then once before her, he sank to one knee, flicking his cloak outward to flow across the floor around him.

"My lady," he breathed as he raised her hand to his lips.

"My husband," she replied contritely. Nick smiled and ran his hands down her dress-covered legs to her feet, then began the torturous journey of discovering the hidden garment within. Natalie suddenly wished she hadn't put the lace garter quite so high. His hands felt so good. She closed her eyes and let out a gasp as he reached her thighs. Nick suddenly smiled malevolently and lifted her dress to shove his head under her skirts.

Natalie groaned quietly as the crowded cheered Nick on and she felt his breath on her skin. Oh god, if he dared to touch her, she just knew she was going to embarrass herself. She felt his teeth graze her upper thigh as he pulled at the garter. He then thankfully began to withdraw, taking the garter with him.

Jordan was beginning to wonder if Nick was going to stay under Natalie's dress all night, when he began to reappear. He suddenly emerged with the garter between his teeth, much to the pleasure of the crowd, who were now whistling, hooting and cheering the couple on. He then removed the item from his mouth and leaned forward to kiss his wife soundly. Natalie wrapped herself around him, and they kissed until a voice cleared beside them, barely able to gain their attention once again.

"All right, all you single gentlemen! Gather round!" Captain Reese shouted, and a rather rowdy clamour of men moved themselves together, waiting for Nick to throw the prize toward them.

"Come along, Lucien!" Samuel grabbed Lacroix's arm and dragged him toward the throng of single men.

"Samuel, I am hardly single," Lacroix stated emphatically. The elder just laughed and kept up his forward motion.

"Technically, my good man, you are as free as a bird! So just like the rest of us men-folk, you shall have to endure this rather untrustworthy and innocuous ritual!" Samuel smiled at the rolling eyes the younger vampire gave him as he reluctantly took up a position near the back of the excited bunch of walking testosterone.

Nick gave Natalie a conspiratorial smirk and took a quick look behind him.  He then turned away from the men and fired the garter over his head. The piece of elastic and lace flew through the air, all eyes following its predicted course.

Lacroix sighed. The little bastard. He easily caught the garter as it basically flew into his face. He looked toward his grinning son, and raised an eyebrow and glared. He then huffed a chuckle as he saw his grandson jumping up and down it the air, cheering. Quickly the women lined up for their turn.

Again, Nick and Natalie shared a glance just before Natalie threw her bouquet high into the air.

We can all guess who caught it. Jordan threw her hands in the air and cheered, raising the bouquet high, as everyone cheered heartily.

Everyone now left the dance floor. All except Lacroix and Jordan. More calls and cheering resulted when Lacroix stood waiting with his prize twirling on his finger. Jordan slowly stepped toward him and took up her position on the chair Natalie had vacated.

She sat and waited patiently as Lucien stepped around her, much as his son had not long before. He then gracefully lowered himself to the floor and removed her right shoe. Much to the joy of the watching crowd, he sensually ran his fingers over her foot and stocking-covered calf. After Nicholas and Natalie's performance, the sense of arousal in the room was at dangerous levels, and Lacroix was sure he would have to order in more beverages to hold out for the night. Slowly, he began to slip the garter over his lover's foot and push it slowly up her leg. His hand disappeared beneath her dress, but unlike his son, he had no qualms about maintaining her decorum. Well, they did say the higher the better. He smirked as he elicited a gasp from her lips and felt her shudder under his touch. He withdrew his fingers from their task and gathered her hands in his, raising them to his lips. Jordan pulled him up for a proper kiss.

Nick smiled as he signaled the band to begin playing before things got too out of hand. He should have ordered more ice. He chuckled to himself. Of course, this had been his and Natalie's little joke to their sire and friend.

After a couple of songs, Lacroix moved to the bandleader and signaled the next piece. The dancefloor emptied once again, and all eyes fell expectantly on the bride and groom.

Nick looked to his new wife and moved to her side. Natalie turned to meet him and took his hands in hers as they met.

*I do swear that I'll always be there

I'd give anything and everything and will always care

Through weakness and strength, happiness and sorrow, for better, for worse

I will love you with every beat of my heart*

They shared a tender kiss before moving as one out onto the dance floor. The empty space stilled and quieted as the first notes of the first dance came to life.

*From this moment life has begun

From this moment you are the one

Right beside you is where I belong

From this moment on*

Nick bent to brush his lips across Natalie's ear.  "I love you, Natalie de Brabant," he whispered.

Nat smiled and her eyes sparkled with a glimmer of tears as she breathed, "And I love you Nicholas de Brabant."

*From this moment I have been blessed

I live only for your happiness

And for your love I'd give my last breath

From this moment on*

There was hardly a dry eye in the house as the lovers entwined and flowed across the floor.  They moved gracefully, Nick sweeping and leading his bride into beautiful dance of love. Their eyes were for each other alone--this was their song.

*I give my hand to you with all my heart

Can't wait to live my life with you

I can't wait to start

You and I will never be apart

My dreams come true because of you*

*From this moment as long as I live

I will love you. I promise you this

There is nothing I wouldn't give from this moment on*

Nick brushed his fingers down Natalie's cheek, and gazed into her eyes. They gently let the bond weaving them together for eternity intertwine.

*You're the reason I believe in love

And you're the answer to prayers from up above

All we need is just the two of us

My dreams came true because of you*

Nick swirled his bride around and the music climaxed, sweeping together as one.

*From this moment as long as I live

I will love you. I promise you this

There is nothing I wouldn't give

From this moment on*

Nick whispered along with the music, his eyes telling her he would forever be true to his word, and nothing would ever pull them apart.

"I will love you as long as I live

From this moment on."

Natalie reached up and touched her lips gently to his, cherishing her husband with the love only she could give.

When the final note died into silence, the spectators stared in awe at the love before them. It was of such strong presence that it could be felt through the air as sure as the rain. After a moment, the next piece flowed into the electrically charged space, and Lacroix held his hand out to his lover, and they joined the pair on the dance floor. Soon, several other couples gracefully joined them. Even Nicky had his new cousin on the floor, showing her a few moves.

The evening went on, much alcohol and bloodwine was served and everyone seemed to be having a grand time.

Lacroix was speaking with Samuel when a bellhop approached him with a message.

"A telephone call for you, Mr Lacroix," the young man told him quietly.

Lacroix nodded and politely excused himself from the conversation.  In the lobby of the grand hotel, he took the phone from the desk and put it to his ear.

"Yes?"

"I have found him. What would like me to do?" the voice said.

"Where?"

"Jakarta."

"Very well. Watch him for now. I shall inform you of any further action," Lacroix ordered. "Oh, and Adin," he said menacingly, "do not let me hear he has vanished again." His tone was deep and ominous.

"Of course not, Lacroix. Knowing the business of others has been my life, " the ex-enforcer said with an unseen smile. Lacroix huffed a laugh as his light attempt at intimidation fell short of the mark.

"I'll keep you informed, and please do pass on my best wishes and congratulations to the happy couple," Adin said sincerely.

"Indeed I shall." They said farewell, and Lacroix cut the connection. Lacroix replaced the receiver, happy that a certain thorn in his side had at last been located and would, in time, be dealt with. Not for the first time, he was regretting not disposing of William the first moment he had ever met the man way back in 900.

Shaking his head slightly, he returned to the festivities, determined to not let the business with the vindictive vampire spoil his good mood.  He smiled when he saw his bartender commandeer the band and add a few musicians of his own, including himself. Patrick beckoned his grandson over to speak with him, and at the grin and nod of the young boy's head, he knew for sure things were about to liven up another notch.

The dance floor cleared and a quick beat began from the Celtic drum now on the stage. Immediately young Nicholas moved out from the crowd and began tapping to the beat of the drum and the violins and flutes now added to the distinctly Irish sound.

With hands on hips, Nicky danced to the centre of the floor, fully concentrating on his task. There were a few shouts of encouragement from the crowd, and the music slowly became faster and so, too, did Nicky's dancing.

He then looked up and smiled to his father before moving toward him and offered him a challenge. Not one to be a coward, Nick began to tap dance toward him, following his son out onto the dance floor. Both males had been divested of their jackets and were now wearing their white, long-sleeved shirts.

"Yeah! Go, Knight!!" came the calls of suitably impressed work mates and friends. Then, much to Lacroix's annoyance, his son then turned to him.

Sighing and rolling his eyes theatrically, he unbuttoned and shook his own jacket from his shoulders, passing it to his lover.

He then waited for his son to come to him and issue the challenge to himself. On cue, he began the rapid tapping steps which the other two were dancing and moved to join them. More cheering went up as the three men now danced together, beating out the floor with the old-fashioned dance. Nick smiled. It had been a very long time since he and Lacroix had danced like this together, and he found himself enjoying himself immensely.

Slowly they came together in the centre of the floor, all the while tapping rapidly. They then formed a circle and put their arms around the other's shoulders and began to move in a circle. Nick beckoned a few others to join them, and those who knew the dance quickly entered their ring, making it larger. All were vampires, except for one, which, to Nick's surprise, was Detective Michael York. The music eventually came to a climatic halt, and everyone burst into cheers and applause.

Jordan and Natalie both came to their partners' sides and quickly fell into step with the next, more subdued dance.

A few dances later, Lacroix moved over to a table and took a glass and silver fork in hand and tapped it rapidly to gain everyone's attention. Once the room stilled, he spoke.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I believe it is now time for my obligatory speech as father-in-law." He smirked toward his family, who grimaced at the thought of what he was going to say.

"As most of you now know, Nicholas is my son." This caused a bit of a murmur through the precinct attendees, and Nick rolled his eyes at the deliberate spilling of the beans. "And for many years, I have seen him pursue and be pursued by many beautiful woman." A snicker went though the crowd, and Natalie playfully glared at her new father-in-law. "However, none have been more lovely or made my son so truly happy as I have seen him now here today.   So, may I wish their life and time together to be long and prosperous!"

Lacroix raised his glass of champagne. "To Nicholas and Natalie!" The room raised their glasses with him and chorused,

"To Nick and Natalie!!"

Nick and Natalie smiled to each other and then leaned in to share a cherishing kiss. Nick then pulled away and moved a step away from his bride.

"Well, I suppose that is my cue," he said loudly to the gathering, with a smile. A chuckle rippled around their friends.

"First of all, I would like you all to know how special you being here today has been to us. This day is something we wished to share with all of our friends and family." Nick looked to Lacroix, and the older man tipped his head and pulled his lips up in acknowledgement.

"I have to confess to falling in love with Natalie the first moment I met her. No matter that she was wearing bloody scrubs and smelled rather strongly of formaldehyde!" He grinned at Natalie and she rolled her eyes.

Another chuckle flittered about. "And as most of you know, it took quite a while for us to acknowledge to each other what the whole world apparently knew already." Nick then pulled a piece of paper from his pocket as laughter roared about the room. "Which is why I now have the honour of announcing the winner of the Toronto PD office pool, which was wagering on exactly when Nat and I would finally tie the knot!" There were hoots and cheers, and even Lacroix was chuckling at the thought of what a spectacle his son had made of himself over the years. Nick then pulled out a large bundle of cash he had been given earlier and read from the piece of paper. "So the winner, who guessed the wedding to the day of June 27th 1998 is...Officer Norma Green!!"

Another cheer went up, and Norma was shoved toward the grinning groom. When she met him, he kissed her on the cheek and handed over the money. Norma held up a hand for quiet.

"Now, since this is all highly illegal, and my being an officer of the law 'n all," she grinned as the crowd booed and chuckled, "I am hereby donating this money to the de Brabant foundation!" she announced, handing the money back to Nick, who grinned again and gave her another kiss. "I'll see it gets to where it's needed," he whispered in her ear. "I know you will, Nick.

Congratulations. I knew you could do it." Norma smiled and kissed Nick again before letting his hands go and headed back into the crowd.

The band came to life once again and Nick quietly pulled Natalie into a small room off the main area. Engulfing her in his arms, he looked into her eyes and smiled.

"You know, Natalie Knight, you are a sight to behold." Natalie dropped her hands to encompass his round behind and stroke it through his silk trousers.

He was not wearing any underwear.

"Hmm, and what is this, detective?" She caressed him boldly, eliciting a moan from his parted lips.

"I...I never wear anything with my tux," he told her. Natalie moved her hands around to his front and felt the well-defined evidence of his arousal.

"Nat..." he breathed in her ear as she touched him, "I want you."

"Then take me!" she commanded softly.

Part 4

"Ahem," a familiar voice cleared itself behind them. Nick rested his head against Natalie's as she looked over his shoulder to their unwelcome guest.

Jordan smirked at Natalie's glare.

"Sorry, guys, but you two do have a suite upstairs, and people are beginning to wonder where you are," she said, not unlike a teacher catching her pupils out back of the bike shed.

Natalie sighed. "You're right." She turned her head to brush her lips against Nick's ear. "Come on, Nick. Let's go and do the rounds, then I think it will be socially acceptable to disappear upstairs," she said.

"Very well," Nick mumbled around his fangs from Natalie's shoulder. Natalie smiled as she saw and felt his embarrassment at being caught in such a fully aroused state.

Lacroix chose this moment to enter the room and wrap his arms around his lover from behind.

"Is everything quite all right? " he asked with obvious amusement.

"Yes, fine...Just give me a minute," Nick said from his position in Natalie's arms. Natalie could feel him beginning to calm down and regain control of himself when Lacroix suddenly came up behind Nick.

"Do hurry along, Nicholas," he purred and gave Natalie a malevolent smile as he caressed Nick's buttocks sensuously with his hands, then slipped them down his thighs as he pressed up against him, gently grazing his teeth against his neck. Natalie immediately felt Nick's state of dwindling arousal suddenly reverse.

"Damn it, Lacroix!" Nick growled. Natalie couldn't help snickering as Lacroix confidently walked away.

"Naat!" Nick complained. She unsuccessfully bit down on her smile.

"Sorry."

At the door, Lacroix turned back as he drew Jordan into his side.

"That...was for earlier," he stated, pointing a finger in their direction.

Nick sighed--he should have known.

Natalie reluctantly unwrapped herself from him, knowing he would be able to calm down much faster without her.

"Let's get this over with," he told her, once his fangs had fully retracted and his groin had subsided somewhat.

Wrapping themselves around each other, they quickly returned to their guests and made their final farewells. Then, with great hurrah and cheering, they left the ballroom to enter the elevator which would take them to the bridal suite.

"This is embarrassing, Nick!" Natalie exclaimed as they rode the lift.

"You don't know the half of it, " he muttered quietly under his breath.

"Everyone in that room knows exactly what we are doing up here!" she told him, clearly embarrassed. Nick smiled as she blushed.

"And what did you mean by 'I don't know the half of it?!'" She shook his arm, demanding he answer her. Nick smirked.

"Well...Lacroix..." He didn't have to finish.

"No!" Natalie exclaimed and widened her eyes.

"Yes." Nick couldn't help but smile at her discomfort.

"All the time?" she asked him, hoping it wasn't so.

"All the time." Nick grinned. "It wouldn't surprise me if he and Jordan were heading toward a room of their own, right now."

Natalie smiled, though still highly embarrassed to know the older vampire could listen in on their most intimate time together.

"Can you feel them when they...you know?"

"A little. It depends on how excited he gets and how shielded his link becomes." At Natalie's raised eyebrow, he clarified," The more aroused he gets, the stronger our bond becomes. Almost as though his attention and energy has been re-routed to other more...important areas."

"Oh."

The elevator stopped and the doors opened to a small hallway. They disembarked and walked, moulded together, into their suite.

Nick drew his wife into his arms and guided them toward the bed. They held on to each other for a time, relishing in the newfound joy in their lives.  They had actually done it. They had finally come to a point in their lives that, at one stage, they had never thought possible, marriage being nothing but a distant dream. But here they were, clasped within that very dream, and loving every moment of it.

Nick rocked them gently as Natalie began to quietly weep.

"This is my dream, Nat. You are my dream. Through all the centuries, with all my yearning and searching...it was all for you. I feel as though I have finally come home."

Natalie drew back and looked into his eyes as he spoke. Yes, she could see it in his eyes. That edge of hunger, that had nothing to do with the vampire, was gone, and in its place was a serenity she had thought Nick was almost incapable of achieving. She reached up a hand to caress his cheek.

"And you are my dream, Nick. My knight. My love." Natalie smiled gently. "I will love you until the day I die. Even then, wherever we may be, I will love you with all my heart, and nothing will ever change that...ever."

"I love you, Natalie Knight," Nick announced with a smile.

"Well, then kiss me, you fool!" she snapped playfully. Nick wasted no time in pulling her even closer against his body and crushing their lips together. He began to nibble his way down her jaw and neck, then across her shoulder as he pushed away the soft material of her wedding dress. Slowly, he tasted every inch of exposed skin and was intoxicated with her sweet essence. Her unique taste filled all his senses, setting them alight and sending him reeling with the pleasure.

Piece by glorious piece her sensuous body was given to him...and he took it.

Natalie moaned under his explorations and let her head fall back as he kept her upright with a firm arm wrapped possessively about her waist. Having relieved his wife of her modesty down to her waist, Nick knelt to begin on the second half. As his mouth came into reach of her lovely, rounded breasts, he took a succulent nipple between his lips and caressed it delicately.

Natalie clutched his head to her, keeping him in position for a moment longer, but he was having none of it and easily pulled away to carry on with his quest of divesting her of her clothing.

Natalie stood and let him minister to her as he saw fit...and since he was doing such a fine job...

He pulled her dress down over her hips and let it fall deftly to the floor.  He then began to remove her stockings. He let his hands run down her legs as the smooth silk slid down to rest with her dress. His bride shivered under his hands and Nick smiled at her reaction to his touch. He repeated his movements with the other leg, freeing it of the silk encasing.

She was almost completely naked. Nick bent down to her ankles and placed soft kisses at her feet, then slowly moved up her inner calf and thigh until he reached his final obstacle. He purposely allowed his fangs to extend, and he sliced through the sheer lace over her hips. The undergarment fell away to reveal the hidden treasure within. He instantly nuzzled his nose into her pelvis, breathing in her womanly scent. She was highly aroused, as was he by this point, and he had every intention of speeding things up a little. He rose and yanked at his collar, ripping his shirt, and spewing the buttons about the room. He pulled what was left off as Natalie fumbled for his belt and trouser fastenings. Toeing off his shoes, he pushed against Natalie, joining them at the lips in a passion-laden dance of tongues.

Natalie pulled his head closer, grabbing his hair roughly, forcing him to step closer, pressing their bodies firmly together.

Nick gasped as his arousal was captured between them and stimulated brutally. Their movements were becoming increasingly desperate, and he found himself being pulled onto the bed atop his lover.

"Nick...!" Natalie gasped. "I need you! Now!" Natalie growled from beneath him, stroking his body with her hands. Nick needed no further encouragement and took her thighs in hand and drew her apart, sinking himself slowly within her. They fell into a natural, slow and easy rhythm, neither wanting this to end too quickly.

Nick opened his eyes as they moved together and brushed Natalie's hair from her face. He leaned down and kissed her eyebrows, then her nose, cheeks and finally her lips, the motion of their tongues matching that of their hips.

He reached blindly and clasped her hands in his, entwining their fingers, and raised them above their heads. He felt bound to her in body, in soul and in a moment, in mind. He had never loved a woman as he loved Natalie. It was so deep and strong and intense, that he was sure he would never find the strength to pull himself away, but then, he had no intention of testing his theory...ever.

His next thought almost surprised him in its direction. He truly hoped Lacroix's love with Jordan was just like his and Natalie's. His father needed this kind of love, and he would wish it upon anyone who ever dared to open one's heart to love.

Their movements quickly began to increase in speed and force, and soon Nick was slapping into Natalie, causing her to cry out in pleasure, unable to continue with their tortuous pace.

Natalie wrapped her legs around his waist and held onto his hands as Nick made love to her. She felt their soft bloodlink tingle with his love and pleasure. God, she loved him so much! She was actually glad they had the ability to share the depth of their love for each other through their vampire-induced bloodlink, and when she was brought across, it would be so much more! Being so bound together forever through more than just their vows of love and commitment made her feel so happy and safe and loved that she felt her tears begin to fall again. She cried out as he stimulated her to a frenzy. They were almost there.

She felt Nick slide his fangs into her neck and gently suck the blood from her body and along with it...her soul.

She felt him. "Oh, Nick!" she cried into his mind. And as the intensity evolved into a moulded bond between them, she whispered, "I love you, my beautiful husband."

"And I you, my fairest, my love," he replied across the thread which united them as he remained joined to her at both hips and throat.

As they subsided from their release, Nick slowly withdrew his canines and suckled and licked her wound until it closed.

Natalie sighed as he cared for his bitemark. It was truly an erotic gesture, but also so loving.

It was a special moment during their lovemaking.

"Two years ago I would never have thought we would have come this far," Natalie whispered as Nick shifted his weight to lay beside her, pulling his wife to his chest.  She was quiet for a moment. Then she spoke. "You know...I wasn't ever going to tell you. But before my accident...I almost left. I had a plane booking and a job lined up in Vancouver," she confessed quietly.

Nick was stunned. Her? Leave? He was the one that always left.

"Why did you stay? he finally gasped.

"You told me you loved me," she breathed.

"And not a moment too soon, " he quipped with a small smile. Fortune had fallen his way, and he wasn't about to fight it.

"You're not angry?"

"Why would I be? I have the least right of all of us to get angry," he told her. "Do you know how many times I almost left you?" he said. "More than I can count. I'd packed and was on my way to the airport once." Nick moved his head back a little to see her reaction to this news.

Natalie blinked and was silent for a moment, "What made you come back?" she finally asked. His answer made her giggle.

"Lacroix," Nick huffed in a amusement. "Through all his pomp and complaining, he knew more than I that I loved you more than my own life. He riled me up by telling me he could now have you as his own, and that the Community would be better for it. Of course I had to protect you, so I flew to your apartment and sat on your balcony for the rest of the night." Nick ducked his head as he told his story.

It had taken until after he and Natalie had become an official item to realize what his sire had done and why. Gently he felt out his sire through their bond and smiled as he felt a gentle wave of pleasure move over him.

Yes, Lacroix and Jordan had definitely reserved a room for the night...at least, he hoped so, because whatever it was they were doing, it was probably highly illegal to do anywhere near a public place!

"Thank you for telling me that, Nick," Natalie told him, dropping a hand down to his rapidly growing manhood. Nick gasped and thrust gently into her hand.

"Let's not do stuff like that again without talking about it, okay?" she said quietly, emphasizing her words with slow strokes of her hand. Nick nodded and growled.

"Okay," he finally gasped, and Natalie reached down and massaged his scrotum and testicles before returning to his engorged member.  She steadily kept up her ministrations, pushing him back when he tried to reciprocate her attentions. Moving down his body, kissing his soft, pale skin along the way, she licked her lips before taking his head between her lips and sucking gently.

"Oh, Nat!" Nick bucked into her mouth, thrusting himself deeper. Natalie pulled back then engulfed him again, sucking long, slow, torturous strokes.

Nick was in a frenzy. He grasped at the bed sheets, ripping them under his fingers. His eyes were blazing, though tightly closed.

"Nat! I'm going to..." He needn't finish as Natalie thrust her wrist into his mouth and he bit down as he released himself into her mouth.

As Nick quickly recovered, he rolled them both over until he was pressing against his wife. His erection had not subsided and wasn't about to. Easily he slipped back inside her and began to thrust rapidly, a moan of desire escaping as Natalie mewled and clawed at his back.

"Yes, Nick, yes!" She was quickly engulfed in pleasure and toppled over the edge into her climax. Nick slowed his strokes but kept up his gentle thrusting. Pushing himself up, he remained impaled as he slid a hand between them and lightly stroked her clit. Again, to this slow rhythm, Nick brought Natalie to orgasm, embracing it with her.

Slumping beside her, Nick pulled his bride into his arms, and she nuzzled deeper into his chest, falling almost immediately to sleep. Nick kissed the top of her head and closed his eyes.

He smiled. Life just couldn't get any better than this.
